SPIE Photonics West 2025: A Conversation with Headwall CEO Mark Willingham
At this year’s SPIE Photonics West, Headwall shared how its growing family of companies is shaping the future of industrial hyperspectral imaging. With the addition of EVK DI Kerschhaggl GmbH, Headwall now brings together five specialized businesses to deliver rapid, precise, and scalable solutions across industries. We sat down with Mark Willingham, CEO of Headwall, to discuss what this means for customers and the market.
Q: What does the addition of EVK bring to Headwall?
EVK’s expertise in real-time classification and data interpretation transforms hyperspectral images into actionable information at production speed. Combined with Inno-spec, Headwall, perClass, and Holographix, we can now offer customers a seamless path from sensing to decision-making.
Q: Why is this moment significant for industrial hyperspectral imaging?
Historically, companies built cameras and left it to the market to decide how to use them. We’ve flipped that model. With broad spectral coverage and industrial integration, we can target industries directly—food safety, recycling, pharma, semiconductors—where the value is clear. And this isn’t future tech. Thousands of hyperspectral cameras are already operating at industrial scale today.
Q: How does the Headwall differentiate itself from others in the market?
It’s about access and deployment. No one else is as connected to customers running at scale. Our approach is focused: only deliver what adds real value. That means fewer recalls, better grading, and higher efficiency for our customers.
Q: What should customers know about Headwall’s global presence?
We’re structured to support clients worldwide with operations in North America, Europe, and Asia. This gives us global reach across our major markets, with local expertise close to our customers.
